6 incredible eyeshadows to make blue eyes POP! ft. Urban Decay, MAC, MUFE, L'Oreal

I am a sucker for neutral and brown eyeshadows- there is no denying it. Since I retired my frosty blues and metallic purples years ago to pursue a career in corporate law, I've literally been on a neutral eyeshadow binge. Every so often I come across an eyeshadow that, either on its own or when paired with another colour, makes my eyes look like they are going to fall out of my head because they pop so much. The selection of shadows I am talking about today are just some of my favourites.

I've mentioned before how much I love the L'Oréal Color Riche L'Ombre Pure single eyeshadows, and Cafe Saint Germain from that range just gives me life. It is the most beautiful light taupe that leans pink/purple and it is just such a giving product. You can wear this on it's own over the lid and it looks stunning on it's own- you can pair it with a darker colour in the crease and it will adapt to that colour perfect, I love to wear this with a purple in the crease as I think it draws out the taupey purpleness. The texture of this is just divine, these eyeshadows feel luxe and expensive, and they come in a huge colour range. These are definitely my most used high street eyeshadows.

Next up is a relative newcomer to my collection but one I have worn non-stop since I got it- Urban Decay Riff is to blue eyes what Santa Claus is to Christmas- absolutely essential. This is such an effortless, easy shade, even when you wear it on its own with lashings of mascara, it just makes it look like you have put so much more effort into your eye makeup than you actually have.

The L'Oreal Infallible eyeshadows are a thing of great beauty and I had this beauty flown in from the US of A because I just had to have it. This is the shade Amber Rush which is not available here in Ireland, even though many other Infallible shadows are, and it's really an awful pity because this shadow is just life. It is the most beautiful rosey gold shade and the texture is just like running your finger over precious little beads of silky loveliness. I sometimes apply this over Inglot Duraline to give a really foil like effect to the lids, with a brown crease, lashing of black eyeliner and some falsies, this is an amazing eye for the upcoming party season.

MAC Uninterrupted is one of the most hyped eyeshadows ever but there is a reason for this. This shade is amazing as a transition shade, all over the lid- just so many happy ways to wear this. It's quite disgusting looking in the pan if I am honest, and even a swatch on my arm makes it look a little green like a tarnished brown, but on the lids it's a gorgeous matte camel colour with strong yellow undertones- a change from the usual red undertones of warm browns or the grey tones of cool browns.

Do not get me wrong, I love my warm toned browns, but MAC Handwritten is probably my new favourite crease colour. If you want to smoke your shadow out, this is an amazing alternative to a black shadow, it's most definitely cool, but when paired with a warm brown like Riff or even Uninterrupted and blended properly, I feel like this provides some sort of 3D effect and if you have small little eyes like me and you yearn for some bambi-eyed action, this is such a gift. This looks great with red toned browns which incidentally brings me nicely onto my next pick...

Which is the Make Up For Ever Blush Powder in the shade 161. Firstly- your eyes are not deceiving you, I did write blush powder. The doesn't look like a blush to me and I would never dream of wearing it as a blush, I picked it out from the eyeshadow section but when I got home, I noticed that it said fard a joues which puzzled me muchly. The swatch below is one swipe, so whether this was mislabelled, in the wrong part of the shop or just confused about its identity, it is one damn pretty powder. I'm quite terrified or anything too reddy toned on my eyes as I am fearful of channeling that old eye infection/conjunctivitis look (sorry, gross I know) but this shade just pleases me so much, and I love to wear this in both the crease and on the outer corner of my lid. It has enough brown in it you see, and I don't think I have anything else quite like this in my entire collection.

  2. I love that single L'oreal shadow, it's one of my favourite eyeshadows ever, so buttery! I got Uninterrupted a while ago and to my shame I've never even swatched it. I will remedy that! Great post Aisling.

  4. Thank you so much for posting MAC Uninterrupted and Urban Decay Riff together. I was wondering how close they was to each other. I own Uninterrupted, and was wondering whether I needed Riff. Looks like I do!
I recommend MAC Amber Lights, and MAC Expensive Pink for Blue eyes, Paired with MAC Bronze in the creas. Makes me eyes pop!

  5. What would you recommend as a replacement for Mac Uninterrupted which, sadly, has been discontinued?
