I've lost count of the number of mascaras I have tried out and hated on this blog. I HATE mascara shopping, I always start out new mascaras with a degree of apprehension because there are just so few mascaras that cut the mustard for me in terms of giving me the volume, length and most importantly, separation that I look for. Unfortunately for me, most of my favourite mascaras are high end- Lancome Hypnose, Diorshow Iconic etc.- and seeing how I fling mascaras after a few months anyways, I am always looking for guilt free drugstore/high street alternatives. The latest mascara to cross my path is the newest Maybelline offering with the most convoluted name- the Colossal Go Extreme Volum' Express Leather Black.
Now when it comes to mascaras, it's 99% about the wand and 10% about the product in my opinion. A quick inspection of the packaging informed me that this mascara has a "double pump" wand which gives extreme volume effect. I like the shape of this wand, particularly the way the brush head is narrower and tapered so help catch those pesky lashes in the far sides of either lash line. The brush doesn't hold onto too much product and distributes it nicely along the lashes from root to tip.
Now for some pictures of the mascara in action on my eyelashes- please excuse any lines and bags on my undereye area as I am going through a sleep deprived patch at the minute. In each of the pictures, I have applied just two coats of the mascara to my upper lashes only. I hope you can see the definition, volume and lengthening powers that this mascara brought.
Overall- and it's a bizarre thing for me to admit- but I actually really like this mascara, and I would repurchase it. I have a feeling it's one of those mascaras that will get better when it dries out a little, but either way, I am absolutely loving the wand and I like the overall effect it gives too. I like my lashes to be quite defined and long and this mascara delivers on those requests. It's not the hardest mascara in the world to get off- my L'Oreal Skin Perfection Miracle Cleansing Oil powers through most mascaras without irritating my eyes, but I didn't notice any transfer, smudging or flakiness landing on my cheeks over the course of wear. This is €10.49 and in stores now and if you're in the market for a new mascara, look it up and thank me later! :)
