Well my August has absolutely flown past and has been an extremely busy work month for me and not much time for any fun times! The start of September is always a special time for me- even as a kid, I used to knock off the days on my calendar until 1st September when peace would be restored and we would be back in school (nerd child, I know). Following on from my July roundup post (and a couple of days late I am aware), I now present the August Roundup Post.
What I've been watching
Have not really had a lot of spare time to watch TV this month, but what I have been watching is Pretty Little Liars- and oh my good god, I got SUCH a shock at the season finale last week. I don't want to ruin the surprise for anyone- and, no, we still don't know who "A" is- but might be worth tuning into it. Truth be told, I am growing a little weary of it now and I believe that there are two seasons left after this one but I have been watching it now for so long that I feel like I am being terrorised by "A".
I’ve also watched a few movies on Netflix for some easy viewing- Sweet Home Alabama, Raising Helen, Along Came Polly etc. It's nice curling into bed with an easy to watch, airy fairy movie.
Also, my interest in the X Factor seems to be reignited now that Simon, and to a lesser extent Cheryl, are back in the fold. 1 week down and I am loving the new panel- much and all as I liked Gary, he is no Simon Cowell.
What I've been listening to
Well the greatest gift that August has brought me has to be discovering Spotify. I know, I am SO old and SO behind the times and I must have been living under a rock. It's actually so awesome, I have it on the go on my iPhone, iPad and laptop. It has been a musical revelation and I am only cursing the fact I did not succumb to the peer pressure earlier! I've found my musical soulmates who have put up amazing playlists for our listening pleasure, and I am particularly enjoying (and not feeling at all guilty) about the Guilty Pleasures playlist. Some songs I've had on repeat this month include 'Problem' by Ariana Grande, 'Chandalier' by Sia, 'Rude' by Magic! and 'Shake Ya Ass' by Mystikal.
Aside from working some 18 hour days, I went to the RDS for the so-called ‘Ultimate Girls Day Out’ which was just an absolute abomination in my mind. Aisles and aisles of tatty clothes, more fake Chanel, Gucci and Dolce and Gabbana than I care to recognise, and the Benefit stand looked like a hurricane had ripped through it despite the fact that there was no one at it when I was there. There was no atmosphere, nobody batted an eyelid when the fashion shows started, and in terms of the ultimate shopping and pampering experience that I believed it was going to be, it fell flat. Such a shame when there are hundreds of Irish craftspeople, designers and cosmetics companies that they choose to fill the RDS with counterfeit goods. I most certainly will not go to this again next year, particularly if it is in the same format.
What I've bought
All the makeups. I never need it but I NEED it. You know how it is. Orla of Makeupovermind notoriety told me that I needed various pieces of makeup from USA so I duly went and ordered them off eBay and am waiting for them to arrive. Much and all as I hated the UGDO, I was delighted to finally clap my eyes on some Paese products and I picked up some lovely bits which I have been obsessed with since I got them. I was fed up of waiting for Physician's Formula to be stocked in a pharmacy near me so I took myself to iHerb and placed an order for a few bits and pieces to tide me over also. I've been to BTs and purchased some lippies, and then spent a small fortune in Boots stocking up on the Maybelline Color Elixirs that I did not own yet and other miscellaneous items. And they gave me ANOTHER No 7 voucher which I surely won't get the chance to use. I’ve also made an order that I’m going to collect in The Loop when I'm flying out later this month.
What I’ve blogged about
What I've loved
Extra Spearmint Chewing gum- I know it has syn value but I can’t get enough of it at the moment. (Speaking of syns, I’ve yet to engage fully with Slimming World again. I don’t think I will be able to go to group anymore because I can just never get out of work before 8 during the week, and I’m just not sure if I would have the same willpower doing it online. I definitely want and plan to start planning meals and keeping food diaries again- chance would be a fine thing!). Paese Manifesto Liquid Lipstick- more coming on that soon. Physician's Formula Mineral Wear Line- again, more coming on that soon. Cornflakes- had a craving a few weeks back and have gotten through three boxes. Candles.
What I’ve rolled my eyes at
A certain Irish company selling private labelled cosmetics threatening to sue a 16 year old schoolgirl for giving a favourable review of the products and admitting she would not be able to afford them because she is still at school. The mind boggles. People taking silly profilers and thumbnails with their mouths wide open. I just don't understand it.
What made me happy
The arrival of Charlotte Tilbury makeup to Brown Thomas is a most welcomed development on the Irish cosmetics scene. I'm biding my time but I want the Magic Cream, the Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk, the Dolce Vita palette and the Filmstar Bronze and Glow. My birthday is next month so I will be briefing my nearest and dearest in the coming weeks!
The weather changing. I’m not a summer person and I'm only dying to roll out the scarves, coats and winter woollies.
Being shortlisted in the Irish Blog Awards 2014 is a huge honour- I'm so grateful to whoever took the time to nominate me, it honestly meant the world.
Receiving an overwhelmingly positive response to a blog post I was reluctant to publish.
My new mini orchid in my office. The little pink pop makes me feel like I've really put my stamp on the place.
What made me sad
Hearing these stories of beheadings, just terrible. Finding out that a woman I work with has Motor Neurone Disease. On a more personal and purely vain level, I had a pretty bad spot of hormonal acne that is taking it's sweet time to clear up. Realising I won't be able to pick up my winter coat in A-wear this year.
What made me angry
Bad breathed people on the Luas. Bloggers that do not value honest and integrity. Spam emails and not being able to unsubscribe from emails you never subscribed to in the first place despite numerous attempts.
On the agenda for September
Well the most exciting blip on September radar is going to a wedding in Poland- I’ve read all the literature on what to expect from a Polish wedding and I am very nervous- I can’t consume vodka, it will be the death of me! I’ve not been to Poland before so looking forward to seeing a bit of the country! Hopefully the Icelandic volcano situation will subside! On a less fun note, my NCT is looming!
Here's hoping for great things from September! :)
