NYX Jumbo Lip Pencils- Collection, Review and Swatches

If you've read my NYX Powder Blush and NYX Matte Lipstick reviews already, you will know that I am a huge fan of the brand and was probably the most excited girl in all of Ireland to find out that NYX Cosmetics counters were rolling out across Irish pharmacies. Today I'm sharing another one of my top NYX picks, the Jumbo Lip Pencils. Now the Jumbo Eye Pencils get a lot of love amongst the blogging community- and don't get me wrong, I love those too- but I wanted to shine the spotlight on the Jumbo Lip Pencils today, tell you what I think of them and show you a few swatches to inspire you to go forth and purchase!

First off- if you are expecting these to be mere lip pencils, you are very much mistaken. These are more akin to lip sticks in chubby pencil form in their application and formula than your traditional lip pencils (albeit not in retractable form so you'll need to have your sharpeners at the ready). Don't mistake this with or for the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils (white pencils as opposed to the black of the Jumbo Lip Pencils). There is a great variety of colours available here in Ireland, but not quite as much as is available in the US, and they retail for €4.99 I think.

These are seriously super pigmented pencils, opaque at pretty much just the one swipe.  They apply smoothly (for the most part, keep reading!), they are longwearing and fade to a tint instead of disappearing off your lips in patches. The consistency of the lip product is moisturising, smooth and comfortable to wear on the lips and they don't aggravate my already dry lips. Because of the pencil format, they are incredibly easy to apply- almost foolproof! They are not the longest wearing lip products in the world but generally you can expect 3-4 hours wear without topping up and like I said, they fade to a tint anyway.

I'll take you through the colours I have in my collection so far one by one:

NYX Chaos- This is a gorgeous warm pink that reminds me of one of my favourite and most worn MAC lippies, MAC Chatterbox. This one does not contain any shimmer. I would class this as a day time pink but I love my pinks. It's perfectly day time and night time appropriate so if you are looking for a lip colour to take you from night to day, this might be it!

NYX Deep Red- if this is not one of the most beautiful and flattering reds that you have ever seen, there is something wrong with you! I absolutely love this red and I feel all old Hollywood glam when I wear it. I picked this up absolutely ages ago, I ordered it online. I usually go for a blue-toned red but this one just appealed to me from online swatches- I thought it was quite similar to MAC Dubonnet. This is incredibly pigmented, and because of that, you need to take time when applying. When applied properly and blotted, you can get your 3-4 hours out of this, and because of the pencil format, it’s easy for transporting around in your handbag for topping up on the go.

NYX Hera- this is another oldie but a goodie for me- I often muse as to how I enjoy a blue toned fuchsia and this one is a pretty exquisite and most definitely blue toned. Hera has strong purple undertones and reminds me alot of MAC Show Orchid. This is such a lovely alternative to a red lip and the little blue flecks make your teeth look whiter.

NYX Honey Nectar- this was a gift from the PR company for NYX in Ireland, so I didn’t actually pick this out myself- but my how I adore the colour- it's probably my most worn NYX lip pencil. The colour is incredibly flattering- a clear pink-nude, and it’s not a million miles dissimilar from my own natural lip colour. This is an incredibly versatile colour- a definite must have if you like you prefer pinky nude lips!

NYX Irish Coffee- this is the only colour in my collection that I am not so keen on but I said I would include it in my review anyway because it is a gorgeous colour, even if it was not gorgeous on me. I thought it would be more coral than a very light peachy-pink, but my natural lip colour is far too strong to pull this colour off. I also find that the colour of this one accentuates the dryness of my perpetually dry lips, and that's not a good look on anyone.

If you haven’t gathered already, I am a huge fan of these NYX Jumbo Lip Pencils and I will definitely pick up more in the not too distant future- particularly because I have it on good authority that there is a new NYX Cosmetics stand coming to a pharmacy approximately 3 minutes from my office. Goodbye wages!

Are any of these Jumbo Lip Pencils catching your eye?
