New!! Dove Dry Shampoo- Review

Up until about two years ago, I absolutely abhorred the thought of dry shampoo. To me, it sounded like a horrible smelly dandruff inducing grease fest (jeez don't hold back!). I used to wash my hair every single day, and use pretty expensive shampoos and conditioners, but I came to realise that this was causing my hair more harm than good. I can't remember when I first tried dry shampoo but I honestly couldn't be without a can on the go now. I'm a Batiste gal at heart- we'll talk about those some other day- but today I want to open the floor and talk about one of the newest Dove haircare products on the shelves today- the Dove Refresh + Care Dry Shampoo.

I only ever use dry shampoo now on second day hair. When my hair was blonde and my dastardly dark roots were coming though, I sometimes applied the dry shampoo to my darker roots to lighten them as a quick fix until the next colour. The packaging etc is fairly unexciting- just the standard aerosol can and you spray the product onto your roots. A huge con that I have with this dry shampoo is that there is such a strong smell off it that does not fade whatsoever over the course of the day- I tried this one morning before I went to work and the smell of dry shampoo was very obvious all day long- over my perfume and anything else I had on. I love the smell of Dove soaps and shower products so so much but I hated the smell of this dry shampoo- it got caught in the back of my throat it was that bad. A plus is that there was none of that white residue that you associate with dry shampoos whatsoever. Now that my hair is darker, I don't want to look like I aged 40 years overnight and show up in work the next day with the roots of a 60 year old woman! Another con is that the Dove dry shampoo is not very volumising at all and my hair felt quite rigid after I applied this- it didn't really feel cleansed, my roots didn't look significantly less oily and my hair didn't feel any fresher.

The Dove Refresh + Care dry shampoo costs €5.99 normally but was on special for €3.99 when I bought it in Boots. My favourite Batiste Dry Shampoo (Hint of Colour in Medium and Brunette) is usually €5.29 but there is almost always some sort of offer on that in Boots also. I won't repurchase this Dove offering- the smell just gets to me too much and I don't really notice any benefits. All in all, this product was a bit of a flop for me, which is a pity because I did have high hopes!

Have any of you tried this yet? Were you more impressed than I was?

  2. I do not really like dry shampoos as I have dark hair and it leaves white staines on my hair, and it works only for 5-6 hours it returns back to its greasy self very quickly
