Given that I spend, on average, one hour per day reading blogs and watching Youtube videos on all things beautifying, I learn alot about products and I often learn of products before they are even released so I can be expecting them on the shelves. It's not very often that I get the opportunity to throw caution to the wind, but when I saw Bourjois had a new foundation on the market, I couldn't help myself but pick it up last month. I did a quick colour swatch in store and swatched the colour '50 Porcelain' and I was happy with it and that is the extent of the research that I carried out. Shocking I know! This foundation is €16.99 but is currently on special for €11.99 in Boots.
I have been a long time fan of Healthy Mix Foundations and Concealers and I also liked the 123 Perfect Foundation that they offered. I hadn't heard any buzz really about their newest foundation but in my search for that elusive Java Rice Powder that I cannot find ANYWHERE I came across this beaut and I couldn't help myself. Packed with translucent pigments, it promises a flawless and luminous complexion, covering your skin without masking it and to act as a light enhancer...IN ANY LIGHT. With the summer now officially over, who doesn't want to appear a bit more glowy and light?! The sun has gone for now and taken with it the bright light to which we had all grown accustomed, so we're back to faking it until we make it. On top of all this lucrative illuminating, it also offers 8 hours hydration.
This looks like a liquid foundation and applies like a liquid foundation, and offers light to medium coverage. I really liked the coverage of this, and it blended like a dream with my flat top kabuki brush. I am embracing lesser coverage at the weekends and now that my skin is quite clear courtesy of the skin prodigy that is the NIMA mitt, I feel like I just need something to even out my skin tone as opposed to covering any blemishes or discolouration. This foundation is perfect for that. Even though it is a foundation, it feels like a tinted moisturiser on my skin with the light-medium coverage of a foundation. I don't find it particularly hydrating but I wasn't really expecting it to, and it doesn't have the longest lasting power- about 5.5/6 hours without powder and 8 hours with Bourjois Healthy Mix Powder.
As for shade range- it is available in 5 shades- 50-54 (I know!! First time I have seen a Bourjois shade lighter than a 51. I am quite pale and the palest foundation, 50 Porcelain, is a great match, and doesn't leave me looking like I am about to faint. I am aware that there are people with fairer skin than mine so I am not sure if this shade would be suitable for the very pale.
Overall, I like this equally as much as my Healthy Mix Radiance Reveal foundation. Unlike Healthy Mix, Happy Light does not give me the coverage I often need, but I have found that Healthy Mix can leave my face looking shiny/ dare I say it a little oily, but the Happy Light is more of a dewy foundation. It also doesn't stick to my dry patches the way the Healthy Mix Radiance Reveal Serum did.
Speaking of serums, there is also a serum primer and a correcting concealer in the range. I swatched these in store but I wasn't sufficiently blown away by them to purchase them.
Bourjois have definitely been knocking it out of the park for me in the last few months with the amazing products that they have been bringing out, and this Happy Light foundation was definitely not a disappointment. I am still searching high and low for the Java Rice Powder so if any of y'all come across this online or in a store, please let me know!
