Best Budget Mascara Ever?? Catrice 'Better Than False Lashes'

I make no apologies for being particularly hard to please when it comes to mascara. To me, it's the kind of product that would probably be easy to be epic but the amount of epic mascaras that I have actually found have been few and far between- so much so that I don't really hold high expectations for mascara anymore. Whilst I experiment and dabble in new lipsticks or the newest eyeshadow palettes, I am a bit reluctant to try out mascaras, and when I find a mascara that works for me, I tend to keep on repurchasing over and over again.

I noticed that this was one of the new Catrice releases on stands this winter and at a cheap and cheerful pricetag of €5.39, I didn't have the highest expectations. I have had good experiences with Catrice and Essence mascaras before so I wasn't completely at sea when it came to making my selection. Something about the better tube and the 'Better than False Lashes' nametag appealed to me. The fact that it offered "dramatic volume, sensational length and extreme curl - better than false lashes!" was a very welcome bonus. I had this for about three weeks at home but I was coming to the end of my mascara of choice (Urban Decay Supercurl Curling Mascara) and since I opened this, I have been using it every day. This comes in Normal/Waterproof Black/Ultra Black and I have the Waterproof Black version.

I always say that 90% of a greatness of a mascara is dependent on the wand. I have seen so many wands over the years, but I really favour the traditional big wand. This brush is like no other in that it is a triple-volume brush designed to capture each individual lash easy, spreading the product for volume and coming through the lashes for length, to leave you with an overall false lash effect. Now because this wand is the USP for this mascara, I've a few shots where you can get up close and personal with it. (apologies for the poor lighting but I tried my best and the sun is defeating me this winter). And even though this wand is massive, it does not irritate my highly irritable eyes in the slightest.

This mascara lasts all day and does not smudge even remotely or transfer onto my crease over the course of the day (something I notice when I use lengthening mascaras). I can testify to the waterproof formula of this- it really stays put and it holds all day long. That said, it is easy peasy to remove with an oil based eye makeup remover- two or three swipes and it's gone.

For the price, I honestly don't think you can go wrong- if you are looking for volume, length and definition, pick this up at a Catrice stand and let me know how you get on.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
