Benefit Advent Calendar- Countdown to Love!!

Last year I missed out on the Benefit Advent Calendar and I knew for a fact that I was not letting the opportunity pass me by again this year. As soon as I heard that Debenhams were taking names for the sets, and that only 18 were arriving in Ireland, I hottrotted over to the Benefit counter in Debenhams to sign up. I got the call yesterday to tell me that my calendar would be waiting for me today, and I went ALL the way to Henry Street today to pick it up especially. The reason I was so eager to try this is because I have soooo much makeup, but very little Benefit makeup. I was a huge fan of the Benefit Bad Gal mascara and Eyeliner back in the day, and Georgia was my favourite peach blush but it has now been discontinued rather annoying! For whatever reason (but I blame old age!), I stopped buying into Benefit. However, I have heard great things about Benefit in recent times, and I thought the calendar would be a really good idea to trial out some products before forking out for the full size versions.

First things first, this calendar is absolutely MAHOOSIVE. It is made of cardboard and it has 24 little doors behind which you can open a variety of different products. The box itself feels really strong and sturdy, and the doors were perforated to make opening them a I couldn't wait another month to open them, so I just threw caution to the wind and opened them all today!

All in all, in order of opening from no.1 to no.24 I got:

Coralista Blush
Stay Don't Stray Concealer
It's Potent Eye Cream
Ultra Plus Lip Gloss in Dandelion
Benetint
Hair Clip*
Ultra Plush Lip Gloss in A Lister
High Beam
That Gal Face Primer
The Porefessional
Bad Gal Waterproof Eyeliner
Total Moisture Facial Cream
Bracelet*
Bad Gal Lash Mascara
Posietint
Hoola Bronzer
Ultra Plush Lipgloss in Sugarbomb
Sun Beam
Girl Meets Pearl Luminizer
Ooh La Lift
Ultra Plush Lipgloss in Coralista
Necklace*
Chachatint
Dandelion Blush

So what is my opinion of this Advent Calendar- well I am on the fence on that one! I love the packaging and the idea, but for €75, I think it's too expensive in all honesty. None of the samples are huge, and there are three dud prizes included- the crappy hair clip, bracelet and necklace- I would much have preferred three more Benefit samples to try out. That said, there is a nice cross section of products in the box- from concealer to mascara to lipgloss etc.

All in all, I think this would make a lovely gift to a makeup enthusiast, particularly one like myself who does not have alot of Benefit products to hand anyway. I would love to know of any other up and coming advent calendars from different brands so please let me know in the comments below!

  1. It's a lovely idea but it's pretty pricy! It would have been great if they included at least two full sized products!

    1. Full sized products would have been amazing!! What is in it is lovely (apart from the jewellery) but for what it is overall, it was far too expensive!

  2. Way too pricey for what you got, lovely products but all small samples. And the last three....come on! :/ Some full sized products would have been great!

    1. The samples were quite small but I'd say I'll get a few uses out of them- I kind of outgrew Benefit for years so looking forward to getting reacquainted! :)

  3. €75 is way too pricey! Would love to see the actual cost of all those samples - prob about €30! Would fume at the jewellery too BUT it is a really cute idea and would make a great gift to someone... It does give a great way of trying everything out and they did give a good range of samples to be fair...

    1. Yeah great range of samples I would agree- from skincare to lipglosses- the jewellery was a bit young for me but can totally see the appeal as a gift!

  4. It's lovely but very pricey! And it's £50 in the UK, which is prob about €60. There should have been a full size blusher or something instead of the jewelry

    1. Sure we never really do well out of the currency exchange Sarah do we?! A full sized blush would have been sweet!

  5. Ahh there should have been one full size product or a voucher for a full size product at the end of the calendar, that's an awful price for a few samples. Sure you'd collect a good few of them throughout the year from magazines! What is with the jewellery?! Awful. I do love the idea of a sample advent calendar but the price is shocking! €35 would have been lots for it.

    1. I was thinking the same- even at the mo the lipglosses are available in some magazine. I just feel like there wasn't much of an exclusive incentive to get the advent calendar!

  6. Nice pack but too expensive! I liked benefit when I was 18 but not really my thing anymore tbh... Great gift if you are receiving!

    1. I'd love to have been given it as a present- I definitely think it's lovely, just not worth 75 smackaroonies! I feel like I have outgrown Benefit a bit but Audrey is helping me relight the fire! x

  7. Would never pay 75 euros for this not only is it only giving you sample sizes it's not even giving you samples of any of their new products I.e they're real, rockateur blush, the fine one even their new lipsticks all these products have been out 3 years +. It's like they made too much stock for their Xmas gift sets so they put it in an "advent calendar" . As for the packaging them people say nothing about Xmas or benefit to me very disappointed in it.

  8. I agree with all the comments above - it's a nice idea and all, and there's a nice array of samples - but honestly for €75 you would expect at least one full sized product. You can pick up a lot of those samples throughout the year as magazine freebies. And the "jewellery" items are like what you'd expect to find in a lucky dip bag from the pound shop. I can see it being a nice gift for someone wanting to start out a Benefit collection or trying the brand for the first time.. It's nice, but it could have been so much better.

Thank you so much for opening it up early and sharing with all of us - it was a real treat to see what was inside. I hope you enjoy it and get use out of the items you did get :)
