Stila In the Light Eyeshadow Palette- Review and Swatches

I made my way to Boots in Liffey Valley for the first time a few weeks ago, and it was quite the revelation. Located on the outskirts of Dublin city, I had heard much about it, but when you literally live within a stone's throw from Dundrum Town Centre, and you work in Dublin 2, you do not have much occasion to travel elsewhere in order to shop. I thought Liffey Valley itself was fine, and to be honest, I was slightly unimpressed, until I reached the biggest, bestest Boots store I have ever come across in my entire life. I spent a tidy sum that day and picked up lots of bits from brands that were not easily accessible to me elsewhere- Origins, Stila, Smashbox, Bumble&Bumble- and I will definitely go back to Boots to avail of their very generous loyalty scheme and 10% discount for Student Travelcard Holders.

Anyways, I have not been shy about professing my love and preference for nude eyeshadows, particularly nude eyeshadow palettes. I had lusted after the Stila 'In the Light' palette for ages and I finally laid my hands on it in Boots in Liffey Valley on that fine day. I have been loving this palette since I got it and it has become a real staple in my collection, and is definitely my favourite eyeshadow palette at the moment.

The palette consists of 10 of the topselling Stila eyeshadows in wearable and neutral shades, and in this one small little palette, you can achieve a host of different looks- from natural, daytime looks, a smoky neutral eye, a smoky dark eye and everything in between.

The sizes of the eyeshadow pans themselves are pretty decent as you can see, and I certainly think you get more product than you would in any of the Urban Decay Naked Palettes. The eyeshadows can also be worn dry or wet for a more intense look if that is what your heart desires, and the mixture of matte and shimmery shades only adds to the possibilities.

The pigmentation and lasting power of these is incredible- particularly when paired over a good base or primer. The full size eyeliner that came with the compact- Damsel- is great also- soft enough for blending, but does not smudge or transfer of it's own free will, and also this has never irritated my eyes when I have tried to take it off. Damsel is a gorgeous deep chocolatey brown shade, and the pencil fits nice and snuggly inside the sturdy, pretty packaging. Sadly, the eyeliner has broken already and no longer winds up, and it's a mighty pity because it was actually a dream to apply :( The mirror on the lid is also a great size.

Overall, I have been absolutely obsessed with this palette since I picked it up, and I strongly recommend it to anyone who loves neutral eyeshadows.

Have you tried any Stila products or have any recommendations for me?

  5. Is it just me or does this look like it could be a perfect replacement for the Naked2 palette?

    1. It's very similar to the Naked 2 palette but I think this one just about edges ahead in my estimation. If my eyeliner wasn't broken already, I would probably vote for this Stila one hands down. I never did love my Naked 2 as much as my original Naked palette though! :)

    1. It was a great eyeliner until it broke, I am hoping that the next time I go to use it that it will be magically fixed!
