New L'Oreal Lip Lovelies- GlamShine Stain Splash- review w/ swatches!

Hi everybody,

A few months ago, I blogged about the L'Oreal Rouge Caresse Lipsticks, and I didn't have enough nice things to say about those babies (click here for a reminder). Well when I first spied L'Oreal's latest offerings, the Glam Shine Stain Splash, I just knew that they had to be mine. I picked up three of these- from L-R in the pics, Romy, Marilyn and Juliet- and I honestly did not think L'Oreal could surpass themselves, but I was (happily) mistaken! These are the much revered, long awaited dupes of the YSL Glossy Stains.

These glosses look like they are going to be super sheer, but you would be alarmed at how opaque they actually look on the lips, and you can build them up to full opacity with a few coats. For maximum opacity, I usually apply four coats, it might sound like alot, but it's such a thin formula and the doe foot applicator is so huge, that it really doesn't feel like very much effort at all, especially considering the colour payoff.

I love the packaging of these, I think they are very sleek and look more expensive than the mere €12 I paid for each one. I love that you get a little flash of colour in the packaging, this is a real, erm, turn on in my eyes, because I find that makeup that I cannot differentiate from other things at a glance gets lost in my collection. I think it's because I'm always in a rush applying makeup.

The one quibble I have about these is that I am not really hugely impressed by the selection of colours available. In one Boots that I visited, there were only four colours available, but in another larger Boots, there were about 6 colours- 2 reds, 2 light pinks (IMO Lolita and Romy swatched pretty much identically), a fuchsia and a purple. I hope L'Oreal introduce some more colours shortly for more colour variety.

The colours I did pick up were lovely, and I spent a long time deliberating over which ones to get:

Romy is quite a nice day time pink, a dusty rose colour. Marilyn actually swatches better on my lips and looks more fucshia on the lips, and Juliet is a lovely blue toned red that really makes your smile look instantly brighter.

Like I said, the formula in these is quite thin so you really have to build up opacity but these guys have amazing staying power- I'm talking at least six hours of chatting, eating, drinking etc. They tend to lose glossiness as they fade, which is nice because they still stain the lips. They are *extremely* drying on the lips though so make sure to care for your lips both before and after wearing these.

Overall, I love these and they are another HIT in my eyes. I am not really inclined to purchase the other shades the way I was with the Rouge Caresses but I'll very happily use the three that I have, and I would definitely repurchase Juliet if it ran out tomorrow.

Have you tried these yet? What did you think?

Thanks for reading

  1. Great review!!!
I haven't tried them yet but after reading your post I'll definitely make one of this mine!

  2. Can't wait to try these! On my list for a while, but they keep slipping through my fingers it seems! Pity about the colour selection though, hope Boots is well-stocked next time I'm in! :)

Thanks for your comment, I love to hear what you all have to say!
